What Makes Your Business Special?
Imagine a close friend or mentor asks you this question…
What would you say?
Today, I want you to ask yourself, what makes your business special. Last week, we wrote about how you can make Revolutionary or Evolutionary changes to your business in 2019 and today, I want to continue in that vein with a little guidance in how to really make those changes pop; to make them effective. Competition is everywhere. Online, next door, the next city or state over from you and more. Now, more than ever it is vital that you emphasize the strengths of your business – what you do better than others. You may not recognize these yourself or have taken the time to look at it before and so, now is the time to actually take a long hard look and uncover the answer to this question.
Businesses which are special usually sell more
People like doing business with specific companies for various reasons. This is what they see as special about your company. There is a multitude of things it could be. For a small food store, it could be that your clients love how the young lad brings their bags to their car and chats with them on the way. For others, it could be about price. Still, others value the range of products available or perhaps the overall buying experience that is a combination of things. The key things for customers tend to be:• Customer Service • Friendly staff• Product range/availability• Location and parking• Competitive Pricing (perhaps surprisingly, it is important but not always the most important thing!)• Look and feel of the products or store• Ease of shopping/ordering a serviceWhat do YOUR customers want? Perhaps you know that your customers want to be taken care of in a particular way. If you are not doing that already, discuss how you can ensure all staff is aware of how people are to be treated. Be specific. Do role plays during staff training times. Do you offer free parking in a convenient location? Even if your customers already know this, stating this in your marketing will reinforce the fact in their mind so that if they see your competitor on the high street or mall has a special offer, they may remember that the cost of parking there is not worth the saving or convenience you offer. Do your customers like shopping with you? If yes, tell others in your marketing! If you don’t know then ask them with a quick survey question. Ask specific questions about their experience and ask for recommendations for improving things. Look at how you can implement some of their recommendations and then shout about it – “Now with express queue options”, “Try our new organic range” etc.
