Make the most of your Tradeshow Displays – The Island Exhibit
In this series of posts, which began last with the 10’ by 10’ tradeshow display, then the 10’ by 20’/30′ tradeshow display, we are looking at the various types of display spaces which are available at trade shows and offer specific advice about how to really make the most of your available space. Today we are looking at a what is often seen as the premier or ultimate display space – the Island Exhibit. The Island is always eye catching and makes a real statement. Standing alone from the rest, the Island gives you a multitude of options so it is important to know what you are really aiming to achieve.
Advantages of an Island Exhibit
Islands take up a lot of space and so there is generally a very limited number allowed at each trade show. This exclusivity is also seen in the fact that most island spaces are allocated in prime locations. What this means is that you have the perfect opportunity to create something really special which will be seen by a large portion of the visitors. In addition to that, you have no “neighbours” so you become a real focal point in the show.
4 sides to use
With 4 open sides available, you need to decide how you are going to use them – you can have access available from all four sides, close 1 or more sides or fully or partially or have only one open access point, using the other three sides to attract attention. In most cases, there will be some obvious advantages or limitations, depending on the location of the exhibit. For example, you don’t want to have a closed wall facing a main thoroughfare. However you use the four sides, remember that any closed off sides should also have promotional banners and signage, including something to direct the visitors to your entrance.
Your Floorspace
If you have an exhibit that is open on 4 sides, you can easily end up losing a lot of floorspace as people will need to be able to move around easily. However, if your stand is big enough this can be a great advantage as you can be easily seen from everywhere the visitors may be coming from. Smaller islands should consider whether the space required for access is a good use and look at the whole trade show floorplan and see where the best locations for closed sides are.
Furniture and fittings
With an island exhibit you are going to be seen – that is for sure. However, it is vital that you consider how you are seen from different angles and what exactly is seen. Ensure that all backs of displays are utilized for signage and banners for a more attractive finish. When using seating or counters, ensure that they are allocated sufficient space and are not going to be crowded out by passers-by – there is no point having a place to sit and discuss business if the space is too noisy or busy to do so effectively.
